Jazz Theatre of Illinois brings something new to dance community

Dance started as a creative and collaborative art form and a new nonprofit company is working to bring that back for young dancers. The opposite of Dance Moms, dance competitions, and for-profit dance teams, Jazz Theatre of Illinois emphasizes the positive and a spirit of community while giving quality training to future professional dancers.

Jazz Theatre of Illinois is in its inaugural season. The company is in residence at Dance Academy of Libertyville, however no specific studio affiliation is required to participate. Dancers can continue to train at their home studio, which is unique in the dance environment.

The company is currently in rehearsals for the Nov. 10th concert "MOVE." "MOVE" will showcase professional and future professional dancers from 7 different dance companies, including Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago. Company co-director Emily Winkler “We are thrilled that the group of young dancers we have selected will have the opportunity to interact with other youth and professional dance companies in a positive and collaborative environment.”
