Palatine runs to regional success

Palatine produced a winning result at the boys cross country regional it hosted on Saturday at Deer Grove East.

The Pirates, led by a second-place finish from junior Graham Brown, finished at 45 points to advance as a group to next week’s Schaumburg sectional.

Palatine also counted the efforts of Argeni Bailon (5th), Emil Kozakiewicz (9th), Adam Brauer (14th) and Eddie Graham (15th).

Lake Zurich finished second at 60 and had three top-10 finishers in Matt Perreira (4th), Will Llanos (8th) and Dave Brown (10th).

Also advancing to the sectional was third-place Barrington, which was led by third-place finisher Jake Herb.

McHenry’s Jesse Reiser led fourth-place McHenry with a winning time of 14:55.

at Niles West: New Trier, led by a winning performance from Chase Silverman, won the team title with 27 points.

Maine West finished seventh, missing team advancement to the sectional by one place.

The Warriors qualified two runners as individuals — junior Alex Liston and senior Geoff Rozo.

Class 2A: St. Viator placed seventh in the Wheaton Academy regional won by Yorkville, but the Lions advanced two runners to the sectional round as senior Nick Brey finished fourth overall and Jacob Bonanotte was 34th.
