Palatine primed for sectional

Mid-Suburban League girls cross country champion Palatine proved to be the class of the Class 3A regional it hosted Saturday at Deer Grove East.

Led by sophomores Sabina Yosif (second) and Kelly O’Brien (third), the Pirates finished at 28 points for a comfortable victory. Amy Kieliszewski (sixth), Liz Cox (eighth) and Kara Burton (ninth) gave Palatine half of the race’s top 10 finishers.

Barrington (87) placed second in the team race and will join the Pirates in the Schaumburg sectional at Busse Woods. Caroline Reynolds (fourth) and Lauren Conroy (10th) led the Fillies’ effort.

McHenry’s Lauren Opatmy was the top finisher in 17:28.

Class 2A: St. Viator senior Meghan Carroll earned a sectional spot by taking fourth place in the Wheaton Academy regional.
