1 dead in 4-vehicle crash that closes Higgins Road

Des Plaines firefighters said last night that a man was killed in a crash involving four vehicles on Higgins Road near I-90 in Rosemont. Racing is feared. Higgins is expected to remain closed between Mannheim Road and Touhy Avenue until 8 a.m. Full story

Road closures start today in Elgin

Drivers will have to contend with about a week of intermittent closures starting today at McLean Boulevard and Route 20 in Elgin. The ramp onto westbound Route 20, for instance, will be closed starting at 7 a.m. Full story

Crash on Elgin-O'Hare closes some lanes

Traffic was blocked on the eastbound Elgin-O'Hare Expressway last night due to a crash involving a Mack truck and a car, Illinois State Police officials said. Full story

Wadsworth home catches fire

Officials are investigating a fire at a single-family home in Wadsworth. IN all, 28 fire departments answered the call with tanker trucks, but the homeowners escaped without injury. Full story

Police: Bartlett man misused committee's debit card

Bartlett police said yesterday a man was arrested earlier in the week for using the Bartlett 4th of July committee's debit card to withdraw money without permission. Thomas M. Schiferi, 32, is accused of stealing $4,475. Full story

Lisle police searching for a missing 16-year-old girl still don't have any leads as to her whereabouts, authorities said yesterday. Full story

Oscar-winning actress to Aurora students: Dream big

Octavia Spencer, an Academy-award winning actress for her work in "The Help," talked about her first children's book and signed copies as a guest at Young Elementary School in Aurora. She had some advice for the students, too. Full story

Rush-hour congestion has built on I-90 eastbound from Arlington Heights Road in to the Kennedy and on I-355 northbound approaching the inbound ramp to I-290. A car that crashed into a townhouse in Hainesville is causing delays on Hainesville road between Washington Street and Route 120, and another crash has been reported at Route 59 and North Avenue in West Chicago. Hawks just happy to grab a point as Khabibulin struggles

Blackhawks goalie Nikolai Khabibulin couldn't grab a rebound of a shot by Radko Gudas at 1:16 of overtime and Martin St. Louis was there to flip the puck into the open net, giving Khabibulin's former team Tampa Bay the 6-5 win. The Hawks probably were lucky to even get the game to overtime thanks to a fluky goal from Jonathan Toews with 1:49 to play in regulation. Full story
