No grounds to close veterans memorials

This is in regards to the article on Page 2 of Oct. 14. The World War II Memorial is not Park Service property. It was built with private contributions and money is held in trust by the Battlefield and Monuments Commission for the memorial's upkeep.

It is one of the open-air memorials, open 24 hours a day with no personnel assigned at any time. Please read Public Law 103-32. There were no legal grounds to close the World War II Memorial, nor were there any legal grounds to close our Vietnam Memorial.
