Fenton notches easy win

The points didn't come early, but they sure came often for Fenton in their final home game of the season. The Bison rolled Friday night against Elmwood Park winning 48-13.

Fenton's offense started off sluggish, punting on their first possession and fumbling on their second. The turnover led to a touchdown pass from Paul Mika to Eddia Amparan. AFter the missed extra point the Tigers were up 6-0, but that would be their last lead of the game.

The flood gates opened up on Fenton's next possession. In just two plays the Bison went 65 yards into the endzone, scoring on a 45-yard pass from William Wassmann to Zach Jakalski. The defense and special teams turned up the pressure for Fenton, blocking and recovering a put on the Elmwood Park 1-yard-line. Senior Alex Cowan cashed in on the short field, putting his team up 8 and scoring the second touchdown in less than 2 minutes.

At that oint the route was on and it was led by seniors Cowan and Jakalski. The two combined for 2 touchdowns each through the night. By the fourth quarter most of the starters were enjoying the game from the sidelines. Jakalski finished the game with over 100 yards receiving and Wassmann threw for a total of three touchdowns.

The game was put on ice early in the second half when Mika's pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by Nikko Avila. Just as they did in the first half Fenton scored a pair of touchdowns in short order. AFter Avila scored the defense forced and recovered a fumble deep in Tigers territory on way to Cowan's second score of the night. Seniors Rene Garcia and Thomas Corona also found the endzone in their final home game.

Despite the big win and emotional night the Fenton team needs to turn its focus to their next opponent, head coach Mark Kos said. With 5 wins on the year the bison need one more to become playoff eligible and will need to go through conference rival Riverside Brookfield to do it. The Bison will be on the road for their final game in what Kos called the biggest game of their season.
