Explosion at factory injures two

Two people were injured Friday afternoon following a small explosion at a factory in Glendale Heights, authorities said.

Police and firefighting crews responded to Titan Metals Inc. at 180 W. Lake Drive at 12:40 p.m. for the report of an explosion involving machinery, according to police.

Two factory employees were injured and taken to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital for treatment.

Authorities believe the metal dust explosion was caused by the mixing of ferrous and nonferrous metals. They said it appears to have been mechanical in nature, and there were no signs of foul play.

Firefighters remained on the scene Friday afternoon to determine an exact cause of the blast.

The cost of the property damage was immediately unknown.
