For the third consecutive year, Hersey High School of Arlington Heights placed more students than any other school in the Illinois Music Educators Association District 7 Band and Jazz Bands. Hersey placed 16 of the maximum 18 allowed to audition in the band and 12 of 12 in the jazz bands. This marks the second consecutive year that Hersey placed all 12 of its musicians auditioning in the jazz bands.

More than 60 high schools participated in the ILMEA District 7 band and jazz auditions. This year about 600 students auditioned for concert band and 250 for the jazz bands.
