Boys soccer/Fox Valley roundup

Streamwood's shutout streak may have ended Tuesday but the Sabres' boys soccer team won again nonetheless.

Nestor Ascencio and Donnie Sosa scored goals with Christian Vences and Juan Munoz providing the assists to lead the Sabres (15-2-3) to a 2-1 Upstate Eight Conference crossover win over Waubonsie Valley.

Sergio Blanco had 5 saves in goal for the Sabres.

South Elgin 3, St. Charles North 1: JC Lujan scored twice and Adam Smith had a goal to lead the Storm (7-7-2) to a UEC crossover win. Jose Gomez and Isaac Perez had assists for South Elgin and Richard Groenewegen had 2 saves in goal.

Burlington Central 4, Hampshire 1: Paolo Sespene scored twice with Matt O'Connor and AJ Gouriotis adding a goal each to lead the Rockets (18-2) to a nonconference win. Sean Fitzgerald and Alan Camarena had assists for BC and Brett Rau made 4 saves in goal. Jose Hernandez scored off an assist from Paul Novacovici. Andy Pederson had 17 saves in goal for the Whip-Purs (5-14-1).

Huntley 3, McHenry 1: Christian Ramos, Travis Walsh and David Pardo scored goals as the Red Raiders (18-2-1, 5-1) won the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division season finale. Jason Zobott (2) and Amir Dajani had assists, while Austin Emery (0 saves) and Tommy Helm (3 saves) split time in goal.

West Chicago 2, Larkin 0: Javy Delgado had 10 saves for the Royals (8-10-3) in their UEC crossover loss.

CL South 5, Prairie Ridge 1: Brad Wisser and Matt Tobolt each had 2 goals and Ryan Rasmussen added a single score to lead the Gators (8-11-3, 3-3) in the FVC Valley. Gus Alvarez (3 saves) and Brian Farstead (5 saves) split time in goal.

Batavia 4, Bartlett 1: AJ Santori scored Bartlett's only goal in this UEC crossover loss. Jake Hasenstein (4 saves) and Andrew Nowak (1 save) split time in goal for the Hawks (4-12-3).

Boys golf

Correction: It was incorrectly reported in Tuesday's editions of the Daily Herald that St. Edward's Michael Mattas shot an 82 at the Class 2A Freeport sectional. Mattas actually shot an 80, missing the individual cut for state by 2 shots.
