Hersey nets another MSL East title

Hersey’s girls volleyball team may have lost its streak of 53 consecutive wins in the Mid-Suburban East earlier this fall, but the Huskies did not relinquish their streak of MSL East titles.

Hersey claimed its 11th in a row on Tuesday night at the Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights with a 25-19 20-25, 25-19 East-clinching triumph over Buffalo Grove.

The Huskies stand at 14-9 and 8-1 in the East while Buffalo Grove is 6-3 in the division.

Senior libero Katie Krebs was busy in the back row, collecting a match-high 31 digs.

“Katie Krebs led our team with her relentless defense,” said Hersey coach Nancy Lill, whose teams have won 4 MSL title matches during the streak of 11 divisional championships.

Liz Fuerst led the Huskies’ attack with 11 kills, followed by Megan Solans (5 kills), Gabri Olhava (3), Caity Strozewski (3) and Katie Rozanski (2).

The Huskies played without one of their top hitters, junior Kelly Hill, who was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

“It was great to clinch the MSL East again,” Lill said. “It wasn’t our best match but it was a win over a solid BG team.”

Carly Pisano (12 assists), Courtney Stedman (11) and Strozewski (4) directed the offense.

Other top diggers were Fuerst (16) and Solans (10) while Olhava (4), Fuerst (3) and Rozanski (3) led in blocks.

BG was led by Alaina Murphy (11 kills), Sarah Rivera (8) and Colleen Nowlan (4). Setter Marie Georgoulis handed out 20 assists.

Top back row players for the Bison were Murphy (7 digs), Rivera (6) and Leah Masciopinto (6).

Rolling Meadows d. Wheeling: Rolling Meadows (16-12, 6-3) posted a 25-8, 25-13 as Mustangs senior Lauren Sokolowski was 20-of-21 serving with 7 aces.

Jenny Vliet (10 kills), Hannah Mickey (6), Ashley Montanez (4), Sokolowski (2) and Mia Harper (1) were top attackers for Meadows.

Sami Kay (14 assist) and Vliet (5) set the attack.

Wheeling (4-19, 1-8) was led on attack by Timber Terrell (4 kills), Micheala Vasey (3), Deanna Kuzmanic (3) and Lani Greenebrg (2).

Elk Grove d. Prospect: Amber Lindfors (7 kills), McKenzie Jordan (6) and Melissa Solorio (4) paced the attack for visiting Elk Grove (14-16, 4-5) in a 17-25, 25-22, 25-12 victory in the MSL East.

Lindfors also recorded 5 blocks while Kerry Souder handed out 11 assists.

Celina Wlodarski (9 digs), Souder (8) and Becca Maher (7) paced the back row for EG.

Junior Carolyn Sherrick led Prospect (10-17, 2-7) on attack with 7 kills while Michelle Haaning (13 assists) and Maggie Chuipek (8) set the offense.

Allie Skowron had 4 blocks and Haaning 3 for the Knights.

Conant d. Hoffman Estates: Visiting Conant improved to 6-3 in the MSL West with a 25-12, 25-13 victory.

Senior Jenn Donnell (7 kills, 2 blocks) and junior DeeDee Durr (5) led the Cougars’ attack. Drea Catalano added 3 kills for Conant while Sarah Manczko, Daniele Sortino and Alyssa Wachal each added 2.

Elisa Ambrose (14 assists) and Sarah Mazurek (50 set the offense.

Kaitlyn Imburgia and Renee Clemment each had 3 kills for Hoffman while Sarah Willie had a pair. Isabella Zach and Wille led the back row with 8 digs apiece followed by Jenny Avila (7).

Schaumburg d. Palatine: Kiana Lewis (10 kills), Hannah Moore (7) and Oyinkan Akinola (4) were attack leaders for host Schaumburg in a 25-17, 25-19 triumph.

Sarah Stuehm collected 15 digs and Jada Blackwell handed out 20 assists for the Saxons (17-10. 5-4).

Meg Angelaccio (7 kills) and Kim Butler (4 kills) paced the Pirates, who received 3 aces from Jessica Lundell and 1 from Angelaccio.

Caitlin Riedy handed 13 assists while Hannah Bridier (10 digs), Angelaccio (7) and Liz Keelty (7) led the back row defense.

Nazareth Academy d. St. Viator: Visiting Nazareth Academy won the ESCC match 25-14, 23-25, 25-4.

Megan Mueller led the Lions (17-14) with 14 kills while Molly Ziegler had 5 kills with 19 assists and 19 digs.
