Algonquin fire limited to kitchen

No one was injured in an overnight kitchen fire on the 1400 block of Winaki Trail in Algonquin, authorities said Tuesday.

Firefighters from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department were called to the area at 3:24 a.m. after a resident discovered smoke in the kitchen of his single story ranch home, authorities said.

Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke showing from the rear of the house, and fire inside the kitchen, authorities said.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and crews ventilated the home to let accumulating smoke out.

The fire is still under investigation and damage is expected to be less than $20,000, according to fire officials.

Carpentersville, Cary, East Dundee and Fox River Grove fire departments provided assistance.
