Barrington scares up a good time on Saturday

Barrington’s 13th annual Scarecrow Festival will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 in Memorial Park on South Hough Street.

More than 500 people are expected to attend this fun event in the Village Center. Free activities for children included scarecrow building, pumpkin painting, pony rides, arts & crafts, balloon animals, face painting, cookie decorating, inflatable games, children’s games and Bob the DJ, who will be on hand with his special costume and favorite spooky songs.

Materials for scarecrows will be provided, and festival goers can bring clothing and accessories to personalize their creations.

Kooker’s Restaurant will have grilled hot dogs, burgers and brats, chips and drinks, available for purchase. Kaleidoscoops will have an assortment of ice cream for sale.

And even when the fest is over, remember you can vote for your favorite scarecrows now through Oct. 31. More than 60 merchants have created original scarecrows to adorn their store fronts and businesses.

Residents and visitors can vote for their favorites on the village’s website at www.barrington-il.gov. Click on the Quick Link — Scarecrow Voting. Photos of all of the scarecrows will be posted. Click on the photo of your favorite scarecrow, hit “send” and a vote will automatically be cast. Vote for as many as you like.

Online voting will end on Halloween and the winners will be announced on the Village website on Nov. 1.
