Carmel improved to 23-3 and 4-1 in the ESCC.

Morgan Meade had a busy night for the Corsairs, totaling 25 assists, 3 kills, 4 blocks and 3 digs. Carmel's attack was led by Grace Schofield (7 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs), Alyssa Armada (6 kills, 2 digs), Haley Nedelka (6 kills, 1 block) and Ellie Rengers (4 kills, 8 blocks). Other contributors to the win included Shauna Meagher (8 digs, 2 aces), Sierra Kepski (9 digs, 2 aces) and Elizabeth Tworek (8 digs).

After a slow start in the first set, Carmel battled back but it wasn't enough to dig out of the hole it created. The Corsairs committed only one error -- a serving error -- in the second set, as their defense was almost flawless.

"The third was a battle," Carmel coach David Pazely said.

Carmel trailed 5-1, pulled even at 14-14, went down 17-14, but again closed the gap and finished strong.

"It was great to see our team battle back against adversity from dropping the first set and trailing in the third," Pazely said. "We kept our composure and were able to make some great defensive plays to win some key points."

Antioch d. Lake Forest Academy: Elena Kelsh and Amanda Spera each posted 6 kills, as the Sequoits won the nonconference match 25-13, 26-24.

Antioch (17-4) also received contributions from Madeline Johnson (4 kills, 3 blocks), Sam Falco (5 kills, 2 blocks) and Marissa Grant (20 assists, 2 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs). Kelsh added 9 digs and 2 blocks, and served for 10 points. Spera's night also included 8 service points, 1 ace, 3 blocks and 12 digs.

Grayslake North d. Woodstock: Kendall Buchman dished out 9 assists on 29-of-30 setting and also totaled 4 kills, 9 digs and 2 blocks, as the Knights won 25-23, 25-13 in Fox Valley Fox action.

Alaina Geissberger added 5 kills and 5 blocks for Grayslake North (10-16, 4-5). Summer Camper pounded 6 kills, Nicole LeBaron had 9 digs and 3 kills, Cassie Reimbold collected 9 digs and Jess Sostaric set 31 of 32 with 7 assists. Bailee Hardy chipped in 2 kills and 2 blocks.

Grayslake Central d. Woodstock North: Alex Dahlstrom and Gabi Casper slammed 7 and 6 kills, respectively, as the Rams captured a 25-7, 25-10 win in Fox Valley Fox play.

Dahlstrom also served 2 aces, while Hannah Thomas had 9 digs to lead the defense for Grayslake Central (18-7, 5-3).
