Palatine Park Dist. holds pet food drive

By

Early in 2013, a group of staff members at Palatine Park District formed a new Service Committee. The goal of the committee is to provide a variety of service opportunities to both staff members and the community throughout the year.

Already in 2013, members of the committee have conducted a Breakfast of Champions food drive, packed meals at Feed My Starving Children, volunteered at a walk to benefit cancer research for animals, and helped clean up Riemer Reservoir on National Public Lands Day.

The committee's latest project is Feed Our Pets, a pet food drive that is being conducted in park district facilities from Oct. 14-26. Items collected will be donated to Young at Heart Pet Rescue and Nina's Pet Food Pantry, both in Palatine.

While all donations will be accepted, items that are needed most are dry cat food and dog food, canned cat food and dog food, cat toys, dog toys, cat treats, dog biscuits, kitty litter and paper towels. Gift cards to Petco and PetSmart will also be accepted.

Items can be dropped off at four locations: Community Center, 250 E. Wood St.; Birchwood Recreation Center, 435 W. Illinois Ave.; Falcon Park Recreation Center, 2195 N. Hicks Road; and Combined Services Facility, 148 W. Illinois Ave.

Donations will also be accepted at the park district's Halloween Party on Oct. 26 at Community Center.
