2 great races for 2 great local causes

On Sunday, October 6th over 200 racers participated in the 5th Annual Run and Roll for the Dole Duathlon and the new 5K Soles for the Dole. The races started and finished at the Historic Dole Mansion and Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake, IL. The races benefited Lakeside Legacy Foundation at the Historic Dole Mansion, and a portion of the 5k also benefited local non-profit partner, Girls on the Run of Northwest, IL. In addition to the amazing race participants, over 50 volunteers supported the races. The competitors were local, and also came the Chicagoland area, and neighboring states. Several top competitors finished under 1-hour, and these are impressive times for completing the multisport courses.

The volunteers cheer racers on, and help direct races on the courses. The weather on Sunday was beautiful, and the races fun. Several of the 5k participants, also won awards for wearing 'super hero' costumes to run the 5k. The awards and medals were given to top finishers by Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley (who also participated in the duathlon), and Village of Lakewood President, Erin Smith. "The races are great events for Lakeside. The courses showcase our beautiful 12-acre property and our surrounding neighborhoods," remarked Siobhan Cottone, Lakeside's Executive Director. Cottone also said, "These races bring awareness to the community that Lakeside is home to the Historic Dole Mansion and Arts Park. Sometimes the community, doesn't realize that we are a non-profit charity, and events like this support our mission to protect the Historic Dole Mansion, and support our vision of being an innovative community arts park!" The foundation is grateful for the continued support of the community, especially from race advisors like Ron Russell, a Lakeside board member, and expertise like Trudy Wakeman, of Lake in the Hills Park District. The race is also generously supported by the presenting sponsor of Sage Products, Inc. and several other local businesses. Lakeside also appreciates the support from the local municipalities and local police in Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake, and Lakewood.
