Oct. 10: Engineering Night at College of Lake County
Ever wonder what it takes to become an engineer or what the profession entails? Come to the College of Lake County on Thursday, Oct. 10 to learn about careers in engineering and meet with representatives from area engineering schools.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in Room C005 on the CLC Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Engineering Night is part of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Speaker Series, which is free and open to students of all ages as well as interested community members.
From 6:30-7 p.m., students may register to attend presentations by various colleges and universities and mix and mingle with of professional engineers. At 7 p.m., keynote speaker Promod Vohra, dean of the Northern Illinois University College of Engineering, will talk about life as an engineering major. From 8-9:30 p.m., students may attend up to three engineering college and university presentations by the Illinois Institute of Technology, Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and others.

Thursday, Feb. 13: Chemistry Magic ― The Chemistry of Teaching. For years, chemistry teacher Bob Becker has collected and/or developed many fun and memorable chemistry demonstrations. This talk will highlight a dozen of his most intriguing demos and show the parallels between them and the art of learning. Come get some pearls of wisdom/sage advice from a 29-year veteran of the classroom.
Friday, Feb. 21: Role of Ethics in Engineering. Celebrate National Engineers Week by hearing a panel of professional engineers discuss the ethical challenges engineers face and how their decisions will influence product designs and customer safety.
Thursday, March 13: Nanotechnology Family Festival. Students of all ages are invited to discover nanoscale science and engineering applications with hands-on activities. Explore the impact on the technology of today and potential for continued innovation in the future and tour CLC’s nanotechnology labs at the CLC Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills.
Thursday, May 8: Robotics in Action. Discover the robotics activities happening in Lake County. Local robotics teams will showcase their projects. Learn about robotics technologies from all aspects of life.
