Two charged in foiled Carol Stream burglary

A man and woman from Carpentersville each were charged Thursday with one felony count of burglary to a business, Carol Stream police said.

Police said they responded at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a burglary in progress at the Tobacco Palace, 345 E. Geneva Road.

Police said witnesses from a neighboring business helped officers apprehend Rodney W. Carroll, 27, and Harmony Joy Young, 30.

Police said one of the suspects threw a rock through the front glass window of the store and they were trying to steal cigarettes.

People inside a neighboring business heard the breaking glass and went outside to investigate, authorities said. They saw Carroll running from the scene carrying cartons of cigarettes and gave chase.

Police said Young was waiting in a getaway car but one of the civilians kept her from leaving until police arrived to take her into custody.

Carroll, meanwhile. dropped the cigarettes and fled the area, but was apprehended later along North Avenue with the assistance of DuPage County sheriff’s deputies.

Authorities said the two suspects have been linked to a similar burglary last month in East Dundee.

Carroll and Young were taken to the DuPage County jail.
