ISU opts for less practice ahead of hoops season

NORMAL, Ill. — NCAA rules will let college basketball coaches start practices earlier this year than in years past. But Illinois State head coach Dan Muller is worried about extra fatigue.

So Muller decided to wait until Monday to start practicing for the season rather than open last Friday as many schools did. And he told The Pantagraph in Bloomington that he’ll shorten some of his practices.

Muller says his team would likely be fine in November and December with a heavier work load. But January and February might be another matter.

Illinois State finished last season 18-15. But the Redbirds return only two players with Division I experience.

Illinois State opens the season Nov. 8 at Virginia Commonwealth.
