Students at Pioneer Elementary School in West Chicago help "Spread the Love"

On a recent morning in September, jars of peanut butter lined the wall in Mrs. Moyski's 4th grade classroom at Pioneer School in West Chicago. The school wide peanut butter collection was implemented by the 4th grade class in response to a campaign started at Olivet Nazarene campus called “Spread the Love”. The group from the college was asking for jars of peanut butter to be donated in honor of September Hunger Action Month. All the jars would then be donated to Northern Illinois Food Bank.

During the week of September 9, 2013 the 4th grade students visited all the classrooms in Pioneer school and asked each student to bring in a jar of peanut butter during the week. Posters advertising the campaign were hung around the school to generate support. The initial goal of Mrs. Moyski's class was to collect 100 jars by the end of the week, but by the next day, the group had surpassed their goal and had amassed 127 jars.

On the final day the tally rose to 300 jars of donated peanut butter. Two members of the Northern Illinois Food Bank came to the school with a van to collect the contributions.
