Vernon Hills fire unintentional:

By

A fire Thursday in Vernon Hills that resulted in $80,000 damage and displaced four families is classified as unintentional. Fire Marshal Mike McNally of the Countryside Fire Protection District said materials in the plumbing chase ignited as work was being done in a bathroom of one of the units on the 900 block of Commonwealth Court. The building is comprised of 16 condo units in sections of four that are separated by firewalls. The fire spread through the chase to the second floor and attic, displacing all four families in one of the sections. Those remained uninhabitable Friday with smoke and fire damage until repairs are made, McNally said. A passer-by noticed smoke coming from the roof area and called for help. A Vernon Hills police officer suffered a nonlife threatening injury but none others were reported.
