Mikaelian eagles; Carmel wins ESCC regular season

Libertyville's Simone Mikaelian added another highlight to her freshman golf season Wednesday.

Mikaelian eagled the eighth hole at Willow Glen, finishing with a 40 to earn medalist honors and lead Libertyville (172) to wins over Deerfield (180) and Lake Zurich (195).

The victorious Wildcats also counted the scores of Jessica Lovinger (41), Megan Sturonas (44) and Katherine Stegman (47). Emma Hoskins and Tressa Freberg also shot 47s for Libertyville.

Lake Zurich was led by Megan Malcolm's 45.

Carmel wins three: At Oak Springs in St. Anne, the Corsairs shot a season-low 176 to earn East Suburban Catholic Conference wins over Nazareth Academy (190), Fenwick (195) and Bishop McNamara (no score, 3 players).

Carmel was the only team to go undefeated in the ESCC, finishing 9-0. The Corsairs are the ESCC regular-season champs for the first time since 2002. Sophomore Kayla Ryan paced the Corsairs, earning medalist honors with a 40.
