Probation for Arlington Hts. man who killed 3 cats

An Arlington Heights man who authorities say killed three cats that belonged to his girlfriend pleaded guilty to the charges, court records show.

John Talmo, of the 200 block of North Derbyshire Avenue, pleaded guilty Wednesday to animal cruelty and was sentenced to 30 months probation and ordered to pay $649 in fines, court records show. Additionally, the judge ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation and to participate in anger management classes through the Cook County adult probation department.

Talmo, 22, told police he strangled a cat in 2012 and told his girlfriend the cat died. He later strangled and beat to death another cat, prosecutors said during Talmo’s bond hearing. Earlier this year, veterinarians determined a third cat died from strangulation and beating.

Talmo told police he lost his temper and attacked the cats after they bit or scratched him, prosecutors said.
