Rooney says there’s time to oppose Route 53 toll

Rolling Meadows Mayor Tom Rooney thinks the city has ample time to launch a campaign against a proposal to institute tolls on Route 53 in Cook County to help fund the expansion of the highway into Lake County.

Rooney, who recently joined the Illinois Route 53/120 Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee, said he adamantly opposes a Cook County toll. If ideas to fund the expansion through tolls in Cook County persist, panel’s finance committee will be expanded to include representative of affected communities, Rooney told his city council this week.
