Active parenting classes return to Elk Grove High School

Back by popular demand, the “Active Parenting Classes of Teens” is returning for the fall semester beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1. All Elk Grove High School parents and Grove Junior High School eighth-grade parents are invited to attend.

The free, four-session program will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on four consecutive Tuesdays at Elk Grove High School, 500 W. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village.

Active Parenting Classes of Teens is designed to help parents talk to their young adults about family issues, drugs, sexuality, and the ever-looming threat of violence. Discipline skills that protect and guide adolescents will be discussed.

The program is offered in other District 214 schools, and over the past six years, more than 1,000 Northwest Suburban High School District 214 and Elk Grove Township District 59 parents have benefited from the active parenting courses.

Parents who have completed the program have responded positively with comments such as “This program has helped our family in six sessions more than therapy did in six months,” and “I learned practical tools that help me out. Now I am connecting instead of disconnecting with my son.”

Participants will receive a parent book that includes activities and guide sheets to reinforce and expand skills taught in the course. For information or to register, contact social worker Sandy Bisinger sandy.bisinger@d214.org, (847) 718-4452, or call student services assistant Barb Jacobus at (847) 718-4422.
