Illini, DePaul in running for No. 2 hoops star
The Fighting Illini and the DePaul Blue Demons basketball programs received some good news Tuesday.
Cliff Alexander, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward from Chicago's Curie High School, has narrowed his college choices from 10 to six schools, and both Illinois and DePaul made the cut announced by Alexander, who is rated the No. 2 high school senior in the country behind 6-10, 265-pound center Jahlil Okafor of Whitney Young (Chicago).
Listed in no order or preference, via Alexander's Twitter account: Michigan State, Illinois, Memphis, DePaul, Kansas and Arizona.
Alexander had Kentucky, Louisville, Baylor and Indiana in his Top 10 list last July. He reportedly has official visits coming up to Kansas, Memphis and Illinois. He has already visited DePaul.
The Illini have three 4-star recruits committed for 2014 in 6-1 point guard Quentin Snider of Louisville, 6-7 forward Leron Black of Memphis and 6-9 forward Michael Finke of Champaign.
Okafor has received offers and visited Baylor, Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas and Duke, and lists Illinois, Michigan State and Ohio State among his top eight finalists.
