Misdemeanor charges dismissed against Wheeling man

A Cook County judge has found Pablo Diaz not guilty of misdemeanor reckless conduct charges earlier this month.

Diaz, 41, accidentally left a bag containing a handgun and ammunition outside an apartment building last May, authorities said. A 12-year-old boy found the bag and told his father who phoned police.

Diaz, who has a valid Firearm Owners Identification card, was planning to practice with his gun at a Gurnee range, authorities said. He placed the bag and some other items on the ground to answer his phone and thought he had collected everything when he left, authorities said.
