Crystal Lake South 2nd at Asics

The Crystal Lake South girls volleyball team continued its strong season this weekend with a second-place finish at the prestigious Asics Preview Tournament in Chicago.

The Gators went 4-1 in the tournament, beating Fenwick, Chicago Christian, the Mother McAuley JV and Lyons before losing in 3 sets to Lincoln-Way Central.

Leading CL South (14-2) in the tournament were Nicole Slimko (15 blocks, 30 kills), Cassy Sivesind (113 assists), Avalon Nero (8 blocks, 40 kills, 19 digs), Carly Nolan (35 digs, 57 kills) and Hannah Wilson (52 digs).

At Westminster Christian: Elgin went 4-1 at the Westminster tournament, beating U-High, IMSA, Mooseheart and Ottawa Marquette and losing to the host Warriors. Tanya Welch (12 aces, 13 digs, 77 assists), Melanie Berg (36 kills), Abby Pierre-Louis (31 kills), Emma Sirridge (10 aces, 7 blocks) and Jessica Ramirez (8 kills, 17 blocks) led the Maroons.

The host Warriors took third place at the tournament., also going 4-1. They beat Mooseheart, IMSA, Elgin and Woodstock North and lost to U-High. Leading Westminster (11-3-3) for the day were Claire Speweik (9 aces, 36 kills, 34 assists), Courtney Gnan (15 aces, 25 kills), Savannah Dutcher (3 aces, 18 kills, 15 blocks), Christina Cusumano (5 aces, 13 kills) and Emma Kovachevich (5 aces, 35 assists).

Elgin Academy was 0-4 in the tournament, losing to Ottawa Marquette, Woodstock North, Kirkland Hiawatha and Waukegan. Kaitlyn Pearson (24 kills, 4 blocks, 5 digs, 4 aces), Olivia Oberdorf (25 digs) and Maggie Veltri (23 assists, 5 aces) led the Hilltoppers.

At Vernon Hills: Jacobs finished second in the Vernon Hills tournament, beating Chicago Jones, Vernon Hills, the Libertyville JV and Buffalo Grove and losing to Glenbard North. Kassie Kasper (5 kills, 8 assists, 7 aces, 30 digs), Ester Onate (9 aces), Bridget Wallenberger (16 blocks, 28 kills), Mackie Traub (67 assists, 6 aces, 22 digs, 7 kills), Allie Campbell (12 kills), Jenna Bilgrien (15 kills, 17 digs, 5 blocks) and Kyla Fitzsimmons (23 kills, 7 aces, 6 digs, 5 blocks) led the Golden Eagles (9-7).

At Maine East: South Elgin went 3-2 at the Maine East Invite, beating Addison Trail, Deerfield and Oak Forest and losing to Maine West and Stagg. Leading the Storm (9-7) were Katie Innis (31 digs, 10 aces), Renee Rush (32 kills), Adriana Loiacano (55 assists) and Ashley Oandasan (22 kills, 38 blocks).

At St. Viator: Larkin, playing without starting middle Paige Grantham (ACT), went 2-3 at the St. Viator tournament. Leading the Royals (12-10) in the tournament were Olicia Kofie (10 aces, 27 kills, 3 blocks, 20 digs), Brianna Stewart (9 aces, 34 kills, 9 assists, 4 blocks, 38 digs), Alyssa McGhee (4 kills, 39 assists, 24 digs), Natalie Kofie (6 kills, 33 assists, 7 digs), Mia Gill (5 aces, 19 digs), Alexis Price (2 aces, 13 kills, 9 digs) and Danielle Newquist (9 kills, 10 digs).

At Glenbard West: Streamwood was 1-4 at the Glenbard West tournament, beating Morton but losing to Glenbard West, Fremd, Lake Park and Northside Prep. Hannah McGlone had 35 kills to lead the Sabres (7-12).
