Third Lake bank robbed

By Russell Lissau

Lake County sheriff's police are searching for an agile thief who robbed a Third Lake bank.

The stickup occurred about 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Associated Bank, 34354 N. Route 45.

The suspect, who was wearing a helmet that covered his face, jumped onto a teller's counter and demanded money be placed into a black drawstring backpack, police said.

After employees complied, the robber forced them into a bathroom, police said.

The thief then fled in an unknown direction. Less than $4,000 was stolen, police Sgt. Sara Balmes said.

The robber did not appear to be armed, police said.

Images of the robber were captured on bank security video.

He was described as being white and slim, and he stood between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall.

In addition to the helmet, he wore: a gray, hooded sweatshirt; blue pants; dark, camouflage boots; a black Puma backpack; latex gloves; and sunglasses.

Anyone with information can call sheriff's investigators at (847) 377-4250 or the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
