No restructuring for Davis, Richmond schools in St. Charles

There will be no restructuring of Davis and Richmond schools in St. Charles following a final judicial order in a lawsuit that sought to revert the grade level centers back to traditional elementary schools.

The order requires the district to develop a new plan to address students labeled “failing” under the federal No Child Left Behind law. The plan must include parent and community input and involve both Richmond and Davis schools. The district must also offer parents the first-time option of moving their students out of Davis and into another district school.

It is possible an appeal may challenge the judge’s decision to not order a restructuring as the ruling does agree Richmond school has failed to meet federal standards for six consecutive years now. Plaintiffs said federal law mandates a restructuring, with the replacement of school officials, at that point.
