Des Plaines library announces September Featured Artist

The artwork of a longtime resident and member of the Des Plaines Art Guild will be on display at the Des Plaines Public Library during the month of September. The public is invited to stop in the newspaper and magazine section of the third floor, west, to view the art of Elaine Tejcek.

Visitors to the library exhibit will be greeted by the work of this native Chicagoan and 38-year veteran of the American Medical Association, who has been painting on and off all her life. She took early retirement so that she could continue with her art, among other things.

As a child in grammar school, Tejcek earned a scholarship to the Chicago Art Institute and continued classes for several years thereafter. And, for the past 13 years has attended “Outdoor Painting” classes in Door County, Wis., sponsored by Oakton Community College and directed by Professor James Krauss, retired chairman of the OCC Art Department. Most of the paintings you will see at the Des Plaines Public Library during the month of September reflect florals, some from Door County created during these classes.

Working in oil and watercolor, Tejcek’s interests center around nature, i.e., florals, landscapes and still-life. She works in a representational manner and chooses the subjects that speak to her.

In addition to her show at the library, Tejcek’s work has appeared at the Des Plaines History Center, First National Bank of Des Plaines, Bank One, DePaul University, Des Plaines Campus, the lobby of the American Medical Association and numerous art fairs. The Des Plaines Public Library has purchased one of her paintings for its Loan Program.
