Son not guilty by reason of insanity in mom’s stabbing

A McHenry County judge has found a 24-year-old man not guilty by reason of insanity in his mother’s stabbing death.

Judge Sharon Prather ruled Thursday in the case of Raymond E. Davis, formerly of Johnsburg. She said prosecutors proved Davis killed his mother, 58-year-old Carol Schritz, but psychiatrists found he was legally insane. The Northwest Herald reports that Davis previously was found mentally unfit to stand trial.

The stabbing happened in November 2011. Davis is being held at Chester Mental Health Center. He is awaiting an October hearing to determine any mental health treatment.
