Historical society event:

The Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society is launching a new season at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Cook Park Library, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. The speaker is Diana Dretske, collections coordinator at the Lake County Discovery Museum. Using letters, diaries and photographs, Dretske will discuss Lake County’s role in the Civil War and Libertyville soldiers will be highlighted. Dretske chairs the Lake County Historical Alliance, a network of 31 area museums and historical societies, writes a blog on local history, has published three books and has received the lifetime achievement award from the Illinois State Historical Society. The meeting is free and open to the public.
