Veteran Hoffman Estates firefighter named chief

Jeffrey Jorian, a nearly 31-year veteran of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department, will be officially sworn in as Hoffman Estates’ 14th fire chief at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.

“I am privileged to have been chosen to follow in the line of outstanding fire chiefs that have come before me,” Jorian said in a news release. “I look forward to the future of this department, and will continue to strive to improve the services we offer this community.”

Robert Gorvett, the previous fire chief, retired in June, and Jorian, then-deputy chief, was named acting fire chief by Village Manager James H. Norris.

“Jeff’s years of experience with the Hoffman Estates Fire Department when combined with his strong communication skills and his commitment to excellence make him the best choice to lead our fire department,” Norris said.

Jorian grew up in Park Ridge, and holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He became a firefighter with the village in September 1982. He has participated in the specialized Under Water Rescue and Recovery and Hazardous Materials teams. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1990, became the department’s first full-time training officer in 1999, was promoted to assistant chief in 2006, and deputy chief in 2008.

As a result of Jorian’s appointment, there will be five other appointments and promotions at today’s village board meeting. They include: Gregory Schuldt to deputy chief; Thomas Mackie to assistant chief; Patrick Fortunato to battalion chief; Wayne Rothbauer to captain; and Thomas Mangiameli to lieutenant.
