Julia McLendon, chief executive officer of the YWCA in Elgin and India Smith, its youth services director, say that about 30 black kids from their Teen Reach program were racially profiled during a field trip to the Dolphin Cove Family Aquatic Center in Carpentersville. Many of the teens pictured were a part of the outing. A Dundee Township Park District official, however, says the kids weren't following aquatic center rules.

About this Article

The YWCA Elgin prides itself on fighting racism and says a group of about 30 of its black teens were the victims of racial profiling during an August field trip to the Dolphin Cove Aquatic Center in Carpentersville. Meanwhile, the Dundee Township Park District's executive director says staff targeted the kids for breaking the rules, not for being black.
