Area churches pray for peace

Catholic churches throughout the Chicago metropolitan area Saturday participated in Pope Francis’ worldwide call for a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria.

Twenty churches were open for Catholics to come and pray from noon to 5 p.m.

Churches participating in the suburbs included the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines; St. Bede in Ingleside; Holy Family in Inverness; Marytown Shrine in Libertyville; and St. Alphonsus Ligouri in Prospect Heights.
