Trade food for library fines:

Vernon Area Public Library patrons can erase fines for overdue materials by donating canned goods this month. Patrons will receive a $1 credit toward fines for each item donated. Food will be given to the Vernon Township food pantry and the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The promotion runs through Sept. 30. More than 1,600 items were donated during the September 2012 promotion.
