Rainbow Falls Waterpark exceeds 100 percent, qualifies for award

The Elk Grove Park District Aquatics Staff set a goal for the 2013 summer season to “Go Platinum.” Platinum is the highest International Aquatic Safety Award that Jeff Ellis & Associates, the Aquatic Safety and Risk Management Consultants, award to facilities on an annual basis.

The award recognizes aquatic facilities that consistently exceed industry standards in risk management and that exemplify aquatic safety excellence. Only the top 10%, per year, of Jeff Ellis & Associates clients worldwide qualify to receive this award. These International Aquatic Safety Awards are based on the results of multiple random audits throughout the season.

Rainbow Falls Waterpark has three unannounced audits each season. The audits include undercover video surveillance of lifeguards to evaluate their professional diligence, individual and team rescue skill scenarios, emergency action plan simulation and a facility evaluation. During each audit, approximately eight to 10 lifeguards are secretly videotaped while on the guard stand. Staff is also recorded taking part in live-action drills and rescue simulations. Based on the auditor’s observations, staff receives a score of “Exceeds,” “Meets” or “Fails” for each lifeguard evaluation and simulated scenario. The organization of facility paperwork such as emergency action plans, zones of coverage diagrams, certifications and licenses are included in the audit as well.

In order to earn the Platinum Safety Award, staff is required to exceed on all sections of each audit and achieve an “Exceeds” rate of 95 percent on all lifeguard evaluations for the entire season.

2013 Rainbow Falls Waterpark staff not only exceeded on all sections of the three unannounced audits, but also achieved an “Exceeds” rate of 100 percent on all lifeguard evaluations for the entire season.

The 2013 annual awards will be officially announced during the off season. The Elk Grove Park District Rainbow Falls Water Park staff have exceeded the requirements of achieving the Platinum Safety Award and eagerly anticipate the formal announcement of award recipients.
