Wheeling Taekwondo School Offers Free Classes

A presidential proclamation recognizing September 2013 as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month was issued on Friday, August 30th and Wheeling families should consider looking toward taekwondo as way of participating in this initiative. “While most Wheeling children are not obese, we are in danger of the scales tipping the other way,” stated Shik Lee, Owner of the White Tiger Martial Arts Center in Wheeling.

When asked about why this initiative was important to White Tiger, Lee cited the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IADP), which reported that childhood obesity has tripled since the 1980s. Wheeling residents should take note that according to the IAPD website, more than 25 percent of Illinois youth from ages 12-16 are overweight. “As an adult, parent, and local business owner, I feel that White Tiger has a responsibility to the Wheeling community to raise awareness about this issue to help stop the trend that has already occurred,” Lee commented.

To help combat childhood obesity, White Tiger Martial Arts Center is offering a free week of training to the wheeling and surrounding areas throughout September. “We want to offer a pressure free opportunity for local families so they can experience how beneficial, and fun, taekwondo can be.” White Tiger Martial Arts Center is located at 286 W. Palatine Rd. (at the Corner of Wheeling Rd.).
