Church Launches New Bible School Program Sept. 8

An exciting new Bible school program commences this fall at Congregational United Church of Christ (1001 W. Kirchoff Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005).

Based on the rotation model of education which embraces flexibility, visual stimulation, and hands-on learning, CUCC's new church school program is designed to meet the needs of a diverse, growing community.

The church school will feature one Bible story each month. Participants will spend the first three Sundays exploring different elements of the featured story while rotating through three themed classrooms. On the fourth Sunday, attendees will come together for a special worship service that connects the lessons and activities of the preceding weeks. While each session may stand alone, new lessons build upon previous ones and all lessons support the church's mission to foster an open, affirming, and loving community.

CUCC has created three distinct spaces to accommodate this program. Each room is named after a Bible story and decorated accordingly. “Noah's Ark” pays homage to the beloved Old Testament tale; the ocean-themed “Sea of Galilee” incorporates imagery from the New Testament; and “Abraham's Tent” depicts a desert scene. By providing a visually stimulating environment for learning, the program aspires to bring the stories to life and actively engage participants.

CUCC member Meg Ulery has developed six years of curriculum for the program. While employed at Haslett Community Church in Michigan, Ulery witnessed the benefits of rotation-style education. As she explains, “[Children who rotate through the entire series of lessons] really know the Bible stories by junior high, and have an opportunity to go further and deeper with their learning.”

CUCC's new church school opens on Sunday, September 8th and runs concurrent with regular Sunday worship (10:30 – 11:30 a.m.).
