No injuries reported in Gages Lake garage fire

No injuries were reported Saturday night in a detached garage fire in Gages Lake.

Grayslake Fire Battalion Chief Jim Weidman said the fire started at about 9:20 p.m. on the 33000 block of North Lake Shore Drive.

Crews arrived and found heavy smoke and fire in the detached garage, which was occupied by two cars. Because the property is located on a small island, firefighters had to run 600 feet of hose line across a footbridge to get to the fire, Weidman said.

The blaze was extinguished in 30 minutes and caused about $50,000 damage to the garage, Weidman said. Its cause is under investigation.

Gurnee and Round Lake firefighters assisted at the scene.
