Present, Past Exchange Students Visit Rotary Club

Ivo Zlaml was a high school exchange student at Stevenson High School from the Czech Republic in 2001, while Maria Biatriz de Franca Reis, she goes by Bia, is similarly now visiting there from Brazil, also under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer and Hawthorn Woods. The Rotary Club of Lincolnshire Morning Star also has served as a host for both.

In such exchanges, students typically live with three families throughout the year and become involved in family activities as well as a number of other activities and outings with club members.

Ivo played on the tennis team while at Stevenson and was able to pursue his interest in snowboarding, while taking part in many other typical high school aciivities. He has since graduated from the University of Prague and is now is working for SAP in Singapore. He also revisited this area in 2006, refreshing friendships he made during his earlier stay.

Bia is from a small town in the interior of Brazil in the province of Parana, where her father is a farmer and her mother is a teacher. This is close to the southern border of Argentina. She has just started at Stevenson, but she already is while looking forward to an activity-full year as an American high school student.

Rotary Youth Exchange is a program of Rotary International. See Rotary.org for more details.

The Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer, and Hawthorn Woods meets each Tuesday for breakfast at The Grove Country Club on Old Route 53.
