Bartlett library highlights Asperger Syndrome in September

Bartlett Public Library celebrates the inaugural Bartlett Reads community reading event by reading The New York Times best-selling book “The Journal of Best Practices: A Memoir of Marriage, Asperger Syndrome, and One Man’s Quest to Be a Better Husband,” by local author David Finch. This September, Bartlett Public Library focuses on Asperger Syndrome, with events happening throughout the month.

These events are part of Bartlett Reads:

Library Book Discussions: 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Bartlett Public Library, 800 S. Bartlett Road; 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Tipsi Monkey, 778 W. Bartlett Road; and 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at Bartlett Public Library, 800 S. Bartlett Road.

In addition, a dramatic reading, a memoir writing workshop, and a parenting lecture will take place throughout the month. David Finch will present “You, Fulfilled” at Bartlett Public Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. Humorous and inspirational, “You, Fulfilled” is the perfect lecture for anyone who needs a healthy dose of motivation. A book signing will follow the event. Books will be sold by The Bookstore of Glen Ellyn.

To make this a truly community-reads project, everyone is encouraged to read and discuss “The Journal of Best Practices” on their own, in book clubs, and in discussion groups.

Library Director Karolyn Nance said “reading Mr. Finch’s memoir makes you feel like you are sitting with him having a cup of coffee as he shares with you different stories of his life and how he learned to deal with having Asperger Syndrome. It is a wonderful opportunity to have such a talented writer visit our library.”
