Your news CFC holds annual Fall Native Tree and Shrub Sale

Citizens for Conservation is now accepting orders for its annual Fall Native Tree and Shrub Sale. Autumn is an ideal time to plant trees. Cool weather allows them to establish roots in their new location before spring rains and summer heat stimulate new top growth. Choose from a large selection of different species of trees in varying sizes.

Native trees and shrubs are disease and pest-resistant, adapted to our soils, and tolerant of our extreme weather conditions.

Help maintain the character of Barrington by planting an oak tree. Contrary to popular belief, growth rates of oaks are far from slow, ranging from 18- to 36-inches per year. They are very tough trees, some live for centuries. Many are drought tolerant once established.

There is a shrub for every niche, habitat and planting scenario. Looking for a native not on the order form? Call CFC and they will try to special order for you.

Download the order form from www.CitizensforConservation.org, and return it by mail or phone (847) 382-7283 to have one mailed to you. Orders should be received no later than Monday, Sept. 9.

Pick up orders between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Sept. 21, at CFC headquarters, 459 W. Highway 22, the white farmhouse with a silo, across from Good Shepherd Hospital. For information, call CFC at (847) 382-7283.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to further CFC’s mission, “Saving living space for living things.”
