Follow these FBS players from the suburbs

They're spread from Hawaii to Boston, Houston to Wyoming, but reside mostly in the Midwest.

We went looking for players from the Daily Herald coverage area on active FBS rosters and found 127 of them. Sorry, FCS players at smaller schools, but that's a project for another time. Apologies if anyone was overlooked, but you know where to send the email so we can update the list online and keep everyone up to date (see chart on left).

Offense dominates this suburban list — specifically offensive line, with 41 players. There are 20 wide receivers, 13 defensive linemen, 11 running backs, 10 linebackers, 10 tight ends, 9 punters/kickers, 8 quarterbacks and 5 defensive backs.

High schools from all over the area are represented, with Barrington, Montini and Wheaton Warrenville South contributing seven each, followed by Glenbard West, Stevenson and Waubonsie Valley with six each.

College football season kicks off Thursday, while the local teams open on Saturday. Illinois hosts Southern Illinois (11 a.m., BTN), Northern Illinois visits Iowa to exact some revenge from last year's last-minute loss at Soldier Field (2:30 p.m., BTN), and Northwestern heads west for a rematch of the 1949 Rose Bowl against California (9:30 p.m., ESPN2).

Tracking suburban stars on college football's biggest stage

Here's a look at former suburban football players on FBS rosters around the country.

Garret Becker: Miami of Ohio (Marmion) RB (RS-Fr.) Son of former Bears OL Kurt Becker, a member of Super Bowl champions.

Chad Beebe: Northern Illinois (Aurora Christian) WR (Fr.) 5-9 receiver trying to follow in footsteps of father Don, who played in 6 Super Bowls.

Jake Bernstein: Vanderbilt (Crystal Lake South) OL (RS-So.) Starter at G midway through last season; Commodores had six straight wins.

Tanner Blain: Kentucky (Lakes) K (RS-Fr.) Booted a 31-yard FG and 43-yard punt in spring game; not on two-deeps this week.

Brian Bobek: Minnesota (Fremd) OL (Jr.) Missed spring with an illness; lettered at Ohio State in 2011, then sat out as transfer.

Peter Bonahoom: Illinois (Prospect) WR (So.) Has good speed, with four catches for 31 yards in the spring game.

Kyle Bosch: Michigan (Wheaton St. Francis) OL (Fr.) Ranked as high as the No. 48 prospect in the country by scout.com.

Joel Bouagnon: Northern Illinois (Aurora Christian) RB (Fr.) Big back ran for 1,475 yards while leading Aurora Christian to 3A state title.

Nate Boudreau: Indiana (Neuqua Valley) QB (RS-Fr.) Walk-on earned a scout team player of the week award last fall.

Tate Briggs: Northern Illinois (Montini) OL (Fr.) Listed at 6-4, 297 pounds, Briggs started on two state title teams at Montini.

Jacob Brinlee: Northern Illinois (Lake Zurich) WR (So.) Former LZ running back was a rare walk-on who saw action as a true freshman.

Jake Brodner: Duke (Glenbard West) OL (Fr.) Long-snapping candidate; Hilltoppers 24-1 past two years with him in lineup.

Franklin Bruscianelli: Cincinnati (Montini) LB (RS-Fr.) Started on three state title teams; fhis ather, Jack, played at Cincy in 1988-89.

Ryan Brown: Northern Illinois (St. Charles North) OL (RS-Jr.) Possible starter at RT this fall after playing both sides of the line last season.

Ryan Callen: Miami of Ohio (Hinsdale Central) OL (RS-Fr.) Finished fifth in state shot put in 2012; not listed on Miami's two-deeps this week.

Nick Campos: Indiana (Wheaton Warrenville South) Punter (RS-Fr.) Listed as No. 2 punter on depth chart, behind sophomore Eric Toth.

Johnny Caspers: Stanford (Glenbard West) OL (So.) Listed as second-team left guard behind senior David Yankey.

Hassan Clayton: Vanderbilt (Loyola) RB (Sr.) Arlington Heights native made squad during student tryouts; on scout team.

Ron Coluzzi: Central Michigan (Naperville North) K (RS-Fr.) Vying for No. 1 kicker role after booting a 50-yarder in spring game.

Will Cronin: Notre Dame (Immaculate Conception) QB (Sr.) After leading IC to 2A state title in '08, is trying to make an impact on Fighting Irish.

Scott Daley: Notre Dame (Downers Grove South) LS (So.) Ranked best long-snapper in nation by scout.com. Did not play as a freshman.

Davaris Daniels: Notre Dame (Vernon Hills) WR (Jr.) Pulled in 31 receptions for 490 yards last fall; had 115 yards national title game.

Hayden Daniels: Houston (Naperville Central) WR (RS-So.) Started at Illinois, then transferred closer to older brother Owen, a TE for the Texans.

Titus Davis: Central Michigan (Wheaton Warrenville South) WR (Jr.) All-MAC second team last year with 43 receptions for team-best 860 yards.

Corey Davis: Western Michigan (Wheaton Warrenville South) WR (Fr.) Brother of CMU's Titus had good fall camp and expected to start as true freshman.

Grant DePalma: Western Michigan (Prospect) LB (So.) Transfer from Rose-Hulman majoring in construction engineering.

Doug Diedrick: Northwestern (Montini) TE (So.) Played in two games; named special teams practice player of week three times.

Peyton Eckert: Indiana (Prospect) OL (Jr.) Started six games as a true freshman, then all 12 last year at right tackle.

Evan Finnane: Army (St. Edward) DL (So.) More than 20 members of Finnane's extended family have served in the military.

Pat Flavin: Illinois (Benet) OL (So.) 6-7, 300 pounds, he played in one game last season; now listed second team RT.

Troy Fumagalli: Wisconsin (Waubonsie Valley) TE (Fr.) Reportedly turned down N.C. State, Minnesota and Syracuse to walk on here.

Cole Gardner: Eastern Michigan (Batavia) TE (RS-Fr.) Former basketball star at Batavia listed as No. 2 TE on EMU's depth chart.

Logan Gaskey: Ohio State (Stevenson) OL (Fr.) One of five invited walk-ons at OSU this fall; enrolled in business school.

Graham Glasgow: Michigan (Marmion) OL (RS-So.) Listed as starting left guard; former walk-on was given a scholarship this week.

Mark Gorogianis: Northwestern (Montini) WR (Fr.) Part-time quarterback in high school walking on as a receiver.

Taylor Graham: Hawaii (Wheaton North) QB (Jr.) Expected to start for the Rainbows; sat out year after transferring from Ohio State.

Austin Guido: Western Michigan (Waubonsie Valley) RB (Fr.) Listed as second-team FB; ran for 2,377 yards as a senior at Waubonsie.

Zach Guritz: Northwestern (Hinsdale South) OL (Fr.) Preferred walk-on's great grandfather Don was a three-year starter at NU.

Gus Handler: Colorado (Barrington) OL (Sr.) Expected to start at center; limited to 5 games last year due to injuries.

Sam Handler: UCLA (Barrington) WR (RS-Fr.) Both parents and two uncles of Handler brothers were college athletes

Andrew Harte: Minnesota (Montini) K/P (Fr.) Downers Grove native converted 112 straight extra points at Montini.

Eric Hauser: Northwestern (Loyola) LB (RS-Fr.) Lake Barrington native walked on after helping lead Loyola to 2011 8A title game.

Jon Hoffing: Western Michigan (Libertyville) OL (RS-Jr.) Listed as starting center; played in six games the past two seasons.

Greg Hohenstein: Bowling Green (Wheaton Warrenville South) LS (RS-Fr.) Slated to be the Falcons' top long-snapper this season.

Blake Holder: Northern Illinois (Streamwood) WR (Fr.) Track star in high school will be looking to help Huskies stretch the field.

Jake Hurcombe: Eastern Michigan (Stevenson) OL (RS-Fr.) Listed as starting LG and backup C on depth chart; checks in at 6-3, 302 pounds.

Mark Iannotti: Eastern Michigan (Schaumburg) QB (RS-So.) Listed as second-team QB on depth chart; saw action in one game last season.

Malin Jones: Northwestern (Joliet Catholic) RB (RS-Fr.) Well-regarded Naperville native could be in the mix to spell Venric Mark this fall.

Chris Kantzavelos: Central Michigan (Bartlett) DE (Fr.) A TE/DE in high school. Kantzavelos is hoping to get a chance to play early.

Jackson Keeler: Wisconsin (Barrington) OL (Fr.) The 6-foot-6, 302-pounder was rated No. 29 offensive tackle nationally by ESPN.

Rafe Kiely: Wyoming (Wheaton North) C (So.) Listed as No. 2 center heading into fall camp; played in one game last season.

Jack Konopka: Northwestern (Fremd) OT (Jr.) In three years at NU, has moved from TE to RT and will now start at left tackle.

James Kristoff: Western Michigan (Barrington) OG (So.) Listed as starting left guard; started two games last season as a true freshman.

J.P. Quinn: Central Michigan (Neuqua Valley) OL (Fr.) A 3-star recruit by ESPN, he checks in at 6-foot-4, 280 pounds.

T.J. Rhattigan: Penn State (Neuqua Valley) LB (RS-So.) Did not see game action after suffering torn ACL in 2012 spring game.

Drew Recker: Notre Dame (Lakes) DB (Fr.) Walked on after helping lead Lakes to playoff success the last two seasons.

Stephen Salata: Wisconsin (Stevenson) K (RS-So.) Listed as second-team punter and holder; made his debut late last season as holder.
