  • A blimp masquerading as a minion from the "Despicable Me" movies toured the air space above the Tri-Cities and DuPage County on Tuesday during a short stop at the DuPage Airport in West Chicago. Allan Patrick Judd, who has been flying since he was 16 and before he could drive a car, is the pilot that has been steering the Minion Balloon on its cross-country tour promoting the movie.

Girl drowns in Fox Lake

A 9-year-old girl from Round Lake drowned while swimming in Fox Lake last night. She had been swimming with some friends near a boat launch on Stanton Point Road when she went under. Full story.

Zaruba opposes cuts to DuPage patrols

DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba says cutting the county's patrol division would ultimately cost taxpayers more money for less service. Glen Ellyn Republican Sandy Pihos plans to run for re-election for her state representative seat, she said yesterday. She'll take on GOP challenger Peter Breen, a Lombard trustee. Pihos has been in the Illinois house since 2003. Full story.

More students are taking Advanced Placement classes in Carpentersville-based Community Unit District 300, and more than ever are passing exams, with ACT scores trending up. Additionally, more graduates are getting scholarship money than ever before. Full story.

Marshall says he's not happy with hip progress

Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall said yesterday that he's not where he'd like to be recovery-wise after his third career hip surgery. Marshall caught 118 passes last season but dropped all three throws sent to him in last week's preseason game. Full story.

Danks leads Sox to win

Jordan Danks hit a clutch two-run single the eighth inning to lead the White Sox to a 4-3 win over the Houston Astros last night. Danks finished with three hits, and the White Sox won for the ninth time in 11 games. Full story.
