White Hall man again accused in deadly DUI wreck

CARROLTON, Ill. — A southern Illinois man again is facing charges that he drunkenly caused a vehicle wreck that killed a female passenger.

The (Alton) Telegraph reports that former Greene County State’s Attorney Matt Goetten has refiled the charge of aggravated driving under the influence against 54-year-old James McEvers of White Hall. Goetten now is with the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor’s office.

While serving as the county’s top prosecutor, Goetten says he had to drop the charge because a key witness was on medical leave, and Goetten was worried he would not be able to bring the case to trial within the statutory time limit.

McEvers is accused of causing the November 2011 wreck that killed 23-year-old Alisha Connors of Roodhouse.

McEvers is free on $50,000 bond. His home telephone number is unlisted.
