Chicago to celebrate March on Washington stamp

The U.S. Postal Service is set to unveil a new Forever stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, and Chicago events are planned to celebrate.

The 1963 March on Washington is most associated with Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The stamp goes on sale Friday with the official unveiling in Washington. The postal service says the artwork shows marchers against the background of the Washington Monument, with placards calling for equal rights and jobs.

In Chicago, the stamp will be presented at the DuSable Museum of African American History’s celebration of the march’s anniversary Saturday.

And the stamp will be noted during pre-game ceremonies Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Field when the White Sox host the Texas Rangers at the Civil Rights Game.
