Sunday deadline for Indiana state park deer hunts

INDIANAPOLIS — Sunday’s the deadline for Indiana hunters to apply for this year’s state park deer reduction hunts.

Hunters can apply online by visiting www.in.gov/dnr/ and going to the Division of Fish and Wildlife page. Paper applications aren’t available.

The Indiana Department of Natural resources says deer reduction hunts reduce the ecological damage that deer herds cause in state parks by helping to maintain deer browsing at a sustainable level. Biologists determine which parks require a reduction each year based on plant recovery and previous hunter success.

Applicants must be Indiana residents who are 18 or over by Nov. 18 and hold a valid Indiana deer license. Each person may apply only once for each state park deer reduction effort.
