Arlington Heights named “Green Power Community”

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has designated Arlington Heights as a Green Power Community for its use of solar power at the downtown bike shelter and use of wind-generated power at its sanitary sewer lift stations and smaller facilities.

All residents and small businesses that participate in the village’s electrical aggregation program also receive their energy supply from 100 percent wind generation.

Green power is electricity produced from “environmentally preferable renewable resources” such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. The village joined the Green Power Partnership as a way to show its commitment to green power and to demonstrate environmental leadership.
