Long-vacant Hanover Park building being demolished

The long-vacant, former Menards building at 900 Irving Park Road in Hanover Park is being demolished, village officials said.

Work was scheduled to begin Wednesday at the privately owned property, located just west of Olde Salem Road. The process of cleaning up the site could take two months due to the necessary remediation. The village is advising residents that there could be dust, noise and heavy equipment in the area.

Officials said a mixed-use residential and commercial development is currently being considered for the site. According to a study of the Irving Park corridor commissioned last year by the village, the area has been identified as prime for redevelopment.
